WHAT IS HYBRID (HYBRID PHOTO & VIDEO)?
Hybrid, sometimes called Hybrid Photo & Video, is one camera operator alternating between shooting photo & video as needed.
CAN THEY SHOOT PHOTO & VIDEO AT THE SAME TIME?
Not usually! But theoretically it may be possible to record video with a locked down shooting position which would be unmanned while we were shooting photos at the same time.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF HYBRID?
Perfect for the project which requires some photo coverage and some video coverage.
HYBRID is cheaper per hour than hiring a photographer AND a videographer for an hour.
If your event requires you to purchase a badge / credentials for people you bring in, a hybrid shooter only needs one badge.
Perfect to produce a mixture of pro images, B-roll of your booth, B-roll of the show / event, "Man on the Street" interviews. Works particularly well in the trade show / booth environment.
If you need to have a presentation (or anything) filmed in it's entirety it's best to use a videographer. If you need some video clips of an event AND some images, HYBRID could be the way to go.
IS A HYBRID PHOTOGRAPHER / VIDEOGRAPHER AS SKILLED AS AN OPERATOR SPECIALIZING IN PHOTO OR IN VIDEO?
We can only speak for ourselves, but YES, our HYBRID shooters also shoot purely PHOTO and also purely VIDEO jobs. Good HYBRID shooters are a rarity. Not as rare as a unicorn, but quite rare! We currently have two operaotors who can both shoot photo and video to very high pro standard.
